We’re formally consulting on the following proposed changes to the State Highway 20 on-ramp at Onehunga Harbour Road:

  • convert the existing T2/truck special vehicle lane to a general traffic lane – this means both on-ramp lanes will be general traffic lanes, and
  • extend the existing on-ramp traffic signals to control both lanes of the on-ramp.
  • Having two lanes for general traffic instead of the existing single general traffic lane will reduce congestion, improve access to SH20 for all vehicles, and minimise congestion impacts elsewhere on the network.

To make the proposed changes, we need to revoke the lane’s special vehicle lane status in the Traffic Controls on State Highways Bylaw 2017/14: Bylaw and Schedule. Amending this bylaw requires us to consult on the proposed changes.
